2006-12-11Christmas Initiative – for more kids' smiles
Again this year, GSD Software would like to do without the usual Christmas presents and use the money instead to make children in the developing countries and crisis areas of this earth a little bit happier.We decided to support the UNICEF Christmas Initiative under the 2006 heading of "Schools for Africa". The child welfare organisation of the United Nations has made it its duty to bring disadvantaged children in southern Africa back into school. "Better schools not only help each individual child to unfold their abilities. They are also the most productive investment into the development of Africa", assures Eva Luise Köhler, patron of the initiative. "For example, if 200 people donate fifty Euros each, UNICEF can establish a simple school for 200 to 300 pupils in Angola."
With "Schools for Africa", children in remote rural areas not only get school equipment such as exercise notebooks and books, but also complete school furniture and the urgently needed latrines and water supply. Training courses for teachers are organised and the municipalities are supported to keep the school running. At the same time, UNICEF stands up for the abolishment of the school fees, which often devour over a quarter of the income of poor families. With the "Schools for Africa" initiative, school attendance for already over 100,000 children was made possible in the last two years.
We regard this project as a worthwhile investment and would like to help to give these children a better future with our contribution. Sincere thanks to our business partners for your understanding!
