As with all of the new IT apprenticeships, there is no special schooling or prior professional training needed to be approved to train as an IT Systems Management Assistant. Apart from a pronounced interest in the area of data processing and business operations, future IT Systems Management Assistants should especially shine in their social and communication skills. Good marks in natural sciences, especially maths, and prior knowledge of data processing is a great advantage.
on’t underestimate the desire of future employers for good German language knowledge. "Just to clarify: we don’t necessarily demand IT understanding, but rather the highest grade in German. In IT management and in the service profession, the ability to communicate trumps everything.".
Proficiency in English speaking and writing are also needed, not just to read English manuals and program descriptions, but also to communicate with international partners. The willingness for ongoing learning, flexibility, mobility and the drive to learn more skills and knowledge independently have to be present. There is a great necessity for negotiating skills in future IT Systems Management Assistants in order to tune into the problems, demands and even peculiarities of customers.

What should IT Systems Management Assistants be able to do?

The typical day of an IT Systems Management Assistant in the area of the new IT professions is mostly occupied by direct contact with the customer. IT Systems Management Assistants are the central contact person for the application of IT systems (standard systems, industry systems, commercial application, or education systems). You look after the customer from the initial conversation, to signing the contract and as far as potential services after the completion of the project.
High quality service and consultation to the customer is the IT Systems Management Assistant’s most important asset. IT Systems Management Assistants know the market and the best application of their products.
Your grounded understanding of distribution tasks and sales strategies predestines you to handle marketing for your own company’s IT products. You either have to convince the customer about the products or build loyalty to your business. Therefore, IT Systems Management Assistants inform and advise the customer with an eye to complete IT and communications services.
Individually, specific requirements that a client has for an IT system have to be analysed, solutions developed and costs calculated. Based on these findings, you can craft a proposal with financing solutions for the client and if necessary, do re-estimates. Once the IT solution is sold, IT Systems Management Assistants look after the introduction of and training in the new systems. " The typical tasks of an IT Systems Management Assistant are very dependant on the company’s structure", says Marc Ansmann, Trainee.
"Depending on their focus, the everyday jobs vary. I, for example, have the opportunity to decide between a position as a lecturer, in management or in distribution. In the area of training, IT Systems Management Assistants mostly offer advice. In the commercial area, accounting especially has a lot to do with it. Additional to that, an IT Systems Management Assistant has the task to troubleshoot faults in the software, hardware or network and remedy them."
